Read about real matches

Fred and Tobias reading
Tobias and Fred

Fred has been on BBBSLR’s Board since February 2020. He has been seeing Tobias regularly at school since they were matched in December 2021. They eat lunch and read books together to help Tobias improve his reading skills. Tobias is in the Read to Succeed program with BBBSLR.

This summer Fred and Tobias will be switching to our Site-Based Plus program, so they’ll be able to not only meet in the school, but also go out into the community to do things together!

“His teacher told me earlier this week everyone went around the room to say how many siblings they have….He said he has 1, Fred. “He’s a winner in my book!”” ~ Fred

Donna and Ali

Big Sister Donna and Little Sister Ali have been matched since July of 2020, but when you’re around these two, you would’ve thought they’d known each other for years! The connection between them has been influential and positive for both from the beginning, but the bond doesn’t stop there. Donna and Ali’s families have also become really close, and many of their outings involve family-get-togethers! When Ali entered our programs, she was living with her grandmother and needed someone else in her life to keep her on a positive path and introduce her to new things. Since being matched, Donna and Ali have spent time volunteering, attending BBBS events, having dinner with Donna and her family, amongst other sporadic activities. Aside from being a Big Sister, Donna was also BBBSLR’s Partner of the Year for 2021 and volunteers her time on our events committees.
